You’re on a new project. Or you have a new job. How can you get up to speed quickly?
We’ve all been there. We’ve been asked to run a high profile project, and there’s not a guru in sight. This is when we turn to our Mentor. (This could be a formal or informal relationship.)
So, what exactly is a mentor? Someone who is experience and is a trusted advisor. A mentor may sometimes be called a guru, coach, guide, tutor, or counselor. This mentor is not necessarily a friend, and in business, sometimes it’s better to not have a friend as a mentor.
The value? With a mentor, you have someone who can question you, be an impartial ear, maybe show you alternatives, and hold your feet to the fire (hold you accountable).
Consider This…
– Who do you have around you who could be a mentor
– Who do you know with a mentor that you could “borrow”?
– Are there any books written by experts that you could reference?
