Peter Drucker, the Father of Modern Management, has said, “Management is doing things right; Leadership is doing the right things.”  (link)

Jack Welch, former CEO and Chairman of General Electric, an NY Times best-selling author, and founder of the Jack Welch Management Institute, wrote in his book Winning that, “Leadership is truth and trust.”

And John Maxwell, a New York Times best-selling author, has stated, “The true measure of leadership is INFLUENCE, nothing more nothing less.”  (link)

As leaders, how do we do the right things, build truth and trust, and influence others? How do we develop our Leadership skills?

One of the best ways to build a skill or set of skills is to have a framework to work with. For Leadership we feel that this framework needs to be built on a set of Cornerstones (link), and these Cornerstones include: Truth, Trust, Communication and Emotional Intelligence.

  • Truth that we speak that to others, and receive from them as well. (link)
  • Trust that we engender in others, and that we get back from them. (link)
  • Communication so that we converse in a clean and clear way with maximum understanding on both sides. (link)
  • Emotional Intelligence so that we optimize our own emotions and relate with others in an empathic and judicious way. (link)

There are many characteristics that are attributed to Leaders and Leadership, yet we believe that these four Cornerstones are the core group. For us to continuing to grow as Leaders, we need to reinforce these Cornerstones, and this is what The 360 Leader is all about.
